Olyfed has been part of our region since 1906, a success greatly influenced by their amazing work environment and a keen eye for stellar employees. With a strong history and more than 125 employees today, they’re always looking for new faces to add to the team.
Growth & Lifelong Careers Make OlyFed Special
Have you thought about a career in banking but lacked specific experience or a college degree? No problem says HR Generalist Deidre Michie. OlyFed tellers are called Customer Service Representatives and all that’s required is solid customer service experience, but cash handling is a huge plus. And not all jobs are upfront. Michie says that administrative services, operations, marketing, accounting, IT and HR don’t require prior banking experience and most positions don’t require a college degree either.
OlyFed is often in need of customer service representatives. This is an entry-level position that can be full-time, 40 hours a week, or part-time working two, 8-hour days. “A teller position can be a position that is overlooked by many,” says Michie.
“There are so many great benefits to being a Customer Service Representative with wonderful opportunities to learn and grow in a professional environment. We also love to promote from within, so your initial position may just be a stepping stone to new and different things.”
Michie has been with the team for nine years and applied to join the OlyFed team when returning home to Olympia. She had experience in human resource departments and was aware of their great reputation. “I applied for the position,” she recalls, “and the rest is history!”
The Corporate Culture Celebrates Employees & Shared Success
Abigail Ferrariis an AVP learning and development manager with OlyFed. An Olympia native, she underwent a life change and was looking to start over. A customer since the age of five, when her aunt mentioned they were hiring, she jumped at the chance. “That was 19 years ago now,” she says, “and I have never looked back.”
Ferrari started as a teller with zero prior banking experience. She then moved to loan servicing and later marketing. Eventually, she started her own department working with partners throughout the bank. Beginning as a teller allowed Ferrari to, “Get my foot in the door, learn about banking and be promoted, ultimately to the position I have today.”
She loves OlyFed’s employee appreciation celebrations and the peer-nominated awards that are handed out quarterly. But it’s the generosity of their senior and executive managers that truly stands out. “They are so generous with their time and knowledge,” Ferrari says, “I think it is incredibly rare that an employee can stop an executive in the hallway or email them to learn more specifically about industry trends, regulations or simply the why behind a procedure. Josh Deck, our CEO, and a rotating member of the Executive team hosts pastry and coffee meetings with employees from various branches and departments periodically throughout the year. Their goal is to have an open exchange of ideas.”

At OlyFed we strive to create a welcoming culture that allows both new hires and existing staff to grow, thrive and provide the best service possible to the people of the South Sound. If you’re on the job hunt, check out our Careers page.
Our culture focuses on teamwork and giving back to the communities we serve. Driven by Better Fedder Leaders, employees pitch in, volunteer, fundraise and support each other no matter what. These leaders “drive our culture, find ways to bring fun and celebrate one another in a variety of ways,” says Michie. Like Ferrari, she appreciates the all-employee get-togethers.
“Our leaders really care about us and the organization, they are thoughtful and listen to employees’ ideas and opinions.”
In fact, OlyFed gives more than 10% of its proceeds to local and regional nonprofits and employees are encouraged to volunteer with groups they’re passionate about. Employees get 16 hours of volunteer time, and many have gone on to hold leadership roles within their chosen group. There is also a monthly Two Cent Campaign where two cents from each OlyFed debit card swipe goes to a different local nonprofit each month. Since 2018 this has raised more than $150,000.
Open OlyFed positions often come with a full set of health benefits, paid vacation and holidays, 401(K) options and professional development opportunities. Have questions?
